Character: Aoi Kuromizu
I think someone's following me.
Shivers ran down my spine as I saw the person beside the girl in blue. She was glaring at me so furiously that she fainted after a few moments. I have no idea what I did to her. She seemed so angry at me for no reason. I haven't even met or seen her before. People started crowding around her.
I hate people.I was saying that to myself when I decided to leave the scene. I don't want to be close to anyone other than her.
I almost jumped from surprise when someone grabbed my shoulder. It was her, the girl in blue. Her eyes were red from crying. Was she really that worried about her friend? I could sense the purity of her emotions.
"Hey, are you alright?" I said without thinking. Great, now my life of solitude would be over. When I thought of that, I didn't even know if I was sarcastic or not.
"No, she was rushed to the hospital... Reina... I don't know what happened to her." she said to me while trying to hold back her tears.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be alright. So, Reina's her name huh? She was glaring at me before she fainted..." I said nonchalantly.
"What? Why would she glare at you? She doesn't even know you. And you don't know me..." she said.
"You're right. Maybe I was imagining things. Now that you mention it, I don't know your name. You are?"
"I'm Daphne Aletheia Strauss. Just call me Daphne."
Wow. She even has a unique name.
"I'm.."
"You're Aoi Kuromizu, a freshman like me. Japanese citizen, born in December 15, 1991, 18 years old."
I was stumped. She knew these things about me, yet I knew nothing about her. She smiled at me half-heartedly. It wasn't the smile that I enjoy seeing.
"How did you know those things?" I asked her.
"I researched a bit on you. Um, would you mind going somewhere more private? I think the people are wondering if there's something going on with us..."
The bystanders were staring at us. I blushed scarlet. Maybe they thought I made her cry. I held her arm and led her to the rooftop. It was always peaceful there.
The breeze blew in the smell of grass and orchids. It always refreshed me. I looked at Daphne standing beside me. Her eyes were still swollen from the incident earlier. But still, she looked amazing to me. The way the wind blew her hair made her look like royalty instead of a commoner.
"Do you always stare at people?"
Oh no. I did it again.
"Uh no, sorry." I looked away. "What else did you want to talk about?"
"You know, I... have always wanted to be closer to you. Everyday I would think of ways to talk to you."
Is this a dream? I couldn't believe the words I was hearing. She got flustered.
"Hey, if it's any consolation, I've been looking at you from afar since the day you talked to me."
I was amazed at my bluntness. It was embarrassing but at least now she knows.
"Oh. Will you be my friend then? It's weird to always be awkward and distant from you."
How did this happen? She wants to be close to me. I always thought that this would just be a dream within a dream."Of course. It would be my pleasure to be your friend." I said to her, smiling sheepishly.
I am falling even more in love with her. The thoughts of today's events left me with an awkward smile on my face.
I got off the train at half past 7. I noticed someone following me. I can't tell if the person is a girl or a boy. All I know is that I have to shake this person of. I made several attempts to lose the person. I went to crowded places, made lots of turns and even took the bus. I came across an old mansion. There, I finally confronted whoever was following me.
"What do you want? You've been following me all night!"
The stalker looked at me with sharp, piercing eyes and let down the hood of the jacket. A girl. She seemed familiar to me. Have I seen her before?
"Seems like it went well with Daphne huh?" she said.
Then, it hit me. She was the girl who fainted, Daphne's best friend, Reina.
She suddenly lunged at me without warning, tearing my shirt and scratching my chest.
What exactly is this girl?!I tried to run, but she just injured me more and more. Blood dripped in front of the gates of the old mansion. Finally, I knocked her unconscious. The bushes lined outside the fence tore bits of her clothing and scratched her skin. It was nothing compared to what she did to me. I could smell rust and salt. The smell of blood.
I woke up the next day in an old church. Completely healed and without traces of injury.

My head hurt like crazy. As I opened my eyes, I struggled to adjust to the brightness of the light. Where am I? - That was the first thing I thought.
A quick scan of my surroundings revealed that I was in a living room - a very familiar one. I had apparently been sleeping in a comfy velvet sofa, wrapped up in a warm blanket and surrounded by several pillows. The clothes I was wearing were clearly not mine but, as with the room I was in, they were familiar - very familiar.
I tried sitting up, only to fall right back down on my back. I was too dizzy. No use trying to get up... I conceded to the fact that I was incapable of movement. I had to lie there and do nothing but stare at the ceiling.
I sighed. The silence was killing me.
In spite of my already aching head, I thought deeply about what I had been doing. All I could remember was walking through the city streets, Daphne's smiling face and that hopeless Japanese jerk. Some gut feeling told me that I was forgetting something, and that something was probably the cause of all these injuries I had on my body. I tried recalling what that something was, but too much thought caused me to grow even dizzier than before.
I stopped delving into my thoughts. Looks like I wasn't just incapable of movement - I was incapable of deep thinking too. Geez... What a way to make a person feel so useless about herself...
After a moment of rest, I tried sitting up again, this time to a much favorable avail. I was able to properly gaze around. The paintings... The picture frames hanging on the wall... It didn't take me long to finally realize it. Of course everything was familiar! I was... in her living room.
"Reina!" The door burst open and she came running towards me. She wrapped her arms around my frail body. She sobbed as she continued on saying my name over and over again. I could not help but smile. Her worry for me was evident. I returned her embrace as best as I could with my all too painful arms.
"Daphne... Why are you crying?"
My best friend broke from our embrace and fighting tears, she spoke, "Reina, you don't know how worried I've been about you... You were missing for three days and then, you...suddenly arrived at my doorstep earlier... I..." Daphne continued on speaking in stammers, making it hard for me to actually understand what she was saying.
Three days? Missing for three days? Really... I was forgetting something. What on earth happened during those three days?!
As I struggled for enlightenment, Daphne continued on speaking, "I felt so guilty... While you were being rushed to the hospital, I just had to...enjoy the company of..."
When Daphne spoke of his name, everything just came back to me - and along with those memories came the raging feelings of hate and dislike. My eyes darted toward Daphne's face. Daphne, how could you? My abilities have not failed me before. Truly, what I could see in Daphne's expression was... adoration. Yes, adoration for me, her best friend, but not solely for me. There was adoration for that jerk as well.
Doubt... What an unpleasant feeling... To think that the time would come when I would finally doubt my pure-hearted best friend... My feelings raged inside me as I stood from the sofa, not caring one bit about the mess of the blankets and pillows I left behind. I ignored Daphne's cries as I swiftly made my way out of her house.
Casting my doubts for Daphne aside, I was certain of one thing - only one person was to blame for everything - for Daphne's confused feelings, for my injuries, for this distance getting in between us.
Yes, only one person was to blame...
Aoi Kuromizu, prepare yourself...
Thus, the second Blackout...

I felt so alone.
I can’t do anything without Reina. It’s not that I can’t live without her. It’s just that I can’t move on until I know she’s safe. I’ve known her for years. She has never been missing my entire life without her telling the reason for her absence.
Again, tears ran down my pale face.
It might be so exaggerated for me to react like this. I am not this dramatic and emotional. It’s just that there is a very special bond between Reina and me. We are so perfect for each other. I had many friends but not as well as Reina. She’s my ideal friend. If she’d be gone, I don’t know where to find anyone like her.
A knock disturbed my endless thoughts of Reina’s absence. I wiped my tears and went down. Upon opening the door, mixed emotions filled my agitated mind.
Reina!
I ran towards her and hugged her like I haven’t seen her for years. Suddenly, intense anxiousness filled my entire being. I looked at her. Tears rushed into my face. What the hell happened to you, Reina?! I thought. The words are trapped in my mind. I can’t speak due to the sudden shock I felt.
She was filled with dried blood. Her left eye was surrounded by a black bruise. Her lips were bleeding, maybe due to a tough punch. She wore the same clothes she had on 3 days ago. Her appearance showed the weakness her body experienced. I was terrified. Suddenly, she looked at my eyes and fainted.
For a few minutes, I just stood as Reina was unconscious in front of me.
I carried her and laid her on the sofa. I called the maid to clean her wounds and change her blood-soaked clothes.
What happened to her? Who did this to her?! I was both angered and scared. I will find the person who did this to you, Reina. I will face my fear and look for that person. I will never let anything dreadful happen to you again. I’m sorry.
Now, I wait for her consciousness to be back. I will wait for your awaking, Reina. I must hear the story of the cause of your pain. I must. Then, I will have my revenge. I promise.
