Character: Aoi Kuromizu
The angel spread its wings against the shining light of heaven.
I looked around when I had come to my senses. The light shone through the vivid stained glass windows in the church. When I sat up, I saw a girl sitting alone in the darkness. My eyes didn't need to adjust to the light to see that this girl had the face of an angel. She had long black hair and light blue eyes. I could sense an internal conflict from the way she looked. It's as if she had another entity living inside her.
She stood up and approached the piano that I had not noticed before. A soft melody flooded the room and left me awestruck. It was the most beautiful piece that I have ever heard.
"Are you just gonna sit there and listen? Or are you gonna treat your savior to breakfast?"
She had the appearance of an angel, but the vocabulary of a devil. My admiration lessened.
"Uh yeah, sure. I'm Aoi Kuromizu. Thank you for saving me, miss...?"
"Iara Latisha Alves. Now, let's get going. You can stand up now, right?"
Amazingly, I stood up without so much as staggering. I wondered how I walked away without injuries. Not even a scar.
"If you don't mind me asking, was it really you who healed me? I don't think even the best doctors in the world could treat a patient overnight, especially without the proper equipment and medicine."
The expression on her face dimmed. I could see it again. The contrast in her personality.
"You know I don't like explaining very complicated things on an empty stomach..."
She must be really hungry. I thought to myself.
"I'll treat you to breakfast if you promise to explain everything to me after."
I was determined to find out what happened after I fainted. All I remember was Reina lunging and attacking me. Then, nothing.
She sighed.
"Fine then. If you really must know, I'll tell you later."
We walked to the nearest shop and ate without saying a word.
"Let's go back to the church. It'll be easier to explain there."
This girl really knows how to make people follow her. I shadowed her without even complaining.
"Okay, now that we're here again in this abandoned church, start talking." I said, with a hint of impatience.
"Last night, when you fainted, I brought you here to the church. I needed God's presence to heal you. It was very hard and draining to do that, you know. You ought to be more grateful."
My head started to hurt. I couldn't connect the story. What was this talk about God's presence and healing? Did she really heal me without medical equipment or medicine?
"So, you're saying you
healed me without using anything but God's presence?"
"Not entirely. I.. there's something.. uhn.. ahhhh..."
She started screaming. She looked like she's gonna break apart. The pain must be so agonizing that she started scratching at the stone floor. I smelled it again. Rust and salt. She must be bleeding.
"Iara! Iara! Get a hold of yourself! What's happening to you?!"
Tears started welling up in my eyes. I couldn't stand being so helpless. When I looked at her face, she glared at me. Her eyes looked like she was warning me. I stepped back in fear.
After a few moments, she finally stopped screaming and writhing in pain. I was tempted to approach her, but I know she'd just glare at me again. So I waited for her. She stood up and went to the altar.
After a few moments, she faced me. Something blue was all over her face and clothes. Then I realized what it was when the smell of rust and salt washed over my face again. It was blood. Her blood was blue.
I looked more closely at her. Her light blue eyes turned black and her hair turned light blue. It was like the colors reversed. It was too much shock than I could take. Just when I thought it was over, something grew behind her. The sun shone so brightly through the stained glass windows that I had to look away.
Although I didn't see it quite clearly, I knew that on her back, she grew angel wings.
Now that you have seen my true form, you must aid me in my mission. I have come here on earth to warn and guide you. Daphne Aletheia Strauss must be saved from Reina Luna Castro and John Richterre. There is no way to tell how far they will go to achieve their goal. You, Aoi Kuromizu, must protect her. I am but your guide."What? But what could I possibly do? How will I save her? What are those two planning to do to her?"
My mind was filled with so many new questions. I felt like I was about to burst with impatience and confusion.
You will be beside her when she is faced with the greatest decision of her life. You must not let her be corrupted. Should she fall to darkness, the day of Judgment shall come after. The world will end and humanity will be brought to extinction. And the angel left as quickly as it had appeared. Iara returned to normal and woke up after a few minutes. The look on her face showed contentment instead of fear and confusion.
"Thank you for finally showing yourself. Now I know our purpose. And I know why you led me to meet Aoi."
She was talking to the one inside her. I no longer felt the conflict within herself. It seems she has become one with the entity.
"Iara, I don't know what to do. Please help me. The angel told me to protect Daphne, but I don't know how. Moreover, it's her best friend that I have to protect her from!"
I don't know how Daphne would react to this. Whenever she's with other people, I could tell that the most important person in the world for her, was Reina. But, when she was with me, she seemed to care less than what she showed other people.
Ahhh! Everything's messed up. I need time to think. I have to be by myself."Listen, I don't know how we'll protect Daphne, but we'll manage. You need time to think and rest. Go home now."
Words of relief.
"In the meantime, I'll go find out more about John Richterre and Reina. If the one.. inside me.. said that it'll be they who will bring the end, then the two of them must have something planned. Come to think of it, the two of you were outside the Richterre mansion when she attacked you. She must have known him."
Chaos swept my mind once again. I could no longer grasp reality.
Iara gave me her contact number so we could stay in touch. After that, we parted.
I went home with a million questions in my mind. I tried to drown it all out through the sound of the rain. I felt the darkness dragging me down again... slowly taking me to a dreamless sleep.
