Title: Unscathed

Posted by: Cheese
Character: Aoi Kuromizu
I think someone's following me.
Shivers ran down my spine as I saw the person beside the girl in blue. She was glaring at me so furiously that she fainted after a few moments. I have no idea what I did to her. She seemed so angry at me for no reason. I haven't even met or seen her before. People started crowding around her.
I hate people.I was saying that to myself when I decided to leave the scene. I don't want to be close to anyone other than her.
I almost jumped from surprise when someone grabbed my shoulder. It was her, the girl in blue. Her eyes were red from crying. Was she really that worried about her friend? I could sense the purity of her emotions.
"Hey, are you alright?" I said without thinking. Great, now my life of solitude would be over. When I thought of that, I didn't even know if I was sarcastic or not.
"No, she was rushed to the hospital... Reina... I don't know what happened to her." she said to me while trying to hold back her tears.
"Don't worry, I'm sure she'll be alright. So, Reina's her name huh? She was glaring at me before she fainted..." I said nonchalantly.
"What? Why would she glare at you? She doesn't even know you. And you don't know me..." she said.
"You're right. Maybe I was imagining things. Now that you mention it, I don't know your name. You are?"
"I'm Daphne Aletheia Strauss. Just call me Daphne."
Wow. She even has a unique name.
"I'm.."
"You're Aoi Kuromizu, a freshman like me. Japanese citizen, born in December 15, 1991, 18 years old."
I was stumped. She knew these things about me, yet I knew nothing about her. She smiled at me half-heartedly. It wasn't the smile that I enjoy seeing.
"How did you know those things?" I asked her.
"I researched a bit on you. Um, would you mind going somewhere more private? I think the people are wondering if there's something going on with us..."
The bystanders were staring at us. I blushed scarlet. Maybe they thought I made her cry. I held her arm and led her to the rooftop. It was always peaceful there.
The breeze blew in the smell of grass and orchids. It always refreshed me. I looked at Daphne standing beside me. Her eyes were still swollen from the incident earlier. But still, she looked amazing to me. The way the wind blew her hair made her look like royalty instead of a commoner.
"Do you always stare at people?"
Oh no. I did it again.
"Uh no, sorry." I looked away. "What else did you want to talk about?"
"You know, I... have always wanted to be closer to you. Everyday I would think of ways to talk to you."
Is this a dream? I couldn't believe the words I was hearing. She got flustered.
"Hey, if it's any consolation, I've been looking at you from afar since the day you talked to me."
I was amazed at my bluntness. It was embarrassing but at least now she knows.
"Oh. Will you be my friend then? It's weird to always be awkward and distant from you."
How did this happen? She wants to be close to me. I always thought that this would just be a dream within a dream."Of course. It would be my pleasure to be your friend." I said to her, smiling sheepishly.
I am falling even more in love with her. The thoughts of today's events left me with an awkward smile on my face.
I got off the train at half past 7. I noticed someone following me. I can't tell if the person is a girl or a boy. All I know is that I have to shake this person of. I made several attempts to lose the person. I went to crowded places, made lots of turns and even took the bus. I came across an old mansion. There, I finally confronted whoever was following me.
"What do you want? You've been following me all night!"
The stalker looked at me with sharp, piercing eyes and let down the hood of the jacket. A girl. She seemed familiar to me. Have I seen her before?
"Seems like it went well with Daphne huh?" she said.
Then, it hit me. She was the girl who fainted, Daphne's best friend, Reina.
She suddenly lunged at me without warning, tearing my shirt and scratching my chest.
What exactly is this girl?!I tried to run, but she just injured me more and more. Blood dripped in front of the gates of the old mansion. Finally, I knocked her unconscious. The bushes lined outside the fence tore bits of her clothing and scratched her skin. It was nothing compared to what she did to me. I could smell rust and salt. The smell of blood.
I woke up the next day in an old church. Completely healed and without traces of injury.
